Start-Up

I love this Kdrama! 🧑

I know you love it too if you have watched it already, but if you haven’t yet, fret not, I try not to spoil much. As always, I try to provide reviews about the things in the drama that (I think) spark little to zero attention to most viewers.

Okay. Let’s start!

Well written!

I love how all things in the drama are connected: the scenarios, people, places…everything. But I love more how every episode is like one chapter in a business / startup book (example is Zero To One). If you are not much interested in reading a (startup) book, how this Kdrama is made is close to how the startup stories, experiences and challenges are also laid out in a book. So what an entertaining way to learn if you want to do start-up.

Desker

Another angle that makes me feel so amazed about Start-up is the way it allows to show that “magic tables” (yes, the Desker) exist already nowadays. I think it must be noted that they are made or shown not because Sandbox is just simply “rich”. Although, yes, this kind of table is oh so pricey but the reason for this is actually related to ergonomics.

Most people in a start-up company (and even in a normal office) sit and work for very looooooong hours in their workstation, in front of the monitors that they failed to recognize that if they still have proper posture while working. Poor posture may lead to chronic back pain for example that can affect an employee’s health & productivity in the long run. Movement from time-to-time while working (sitting then standing as the table goes up) helps better blood flow than just being stagnant. That’s the reason why nowadays, companies are now starting to invest in tables like these to help promote a better working environment for their employees.

Kudos to Start-Up for showing that health & safety is a priority.

Waste segregation

Do you remember when the guard summons Han Ji Pyeong because he threw a plant with a soil in a ceramic pot to the garbage area? The guard later on lectured Mr. Han how to do the waste segregation properly. Soil – can be thrown back to earth. Plant – can be a regular waste. Ceramic pot – must be placed inside a combustible bag. The guard really looked thru the CCTV to know who the culprit was, the one responsible for doing such act – improper waste disposal. When I was watching that scene, I was really amazed at how serious they are about waste segregation. And how I wish we are too whether in our own home, in our office, anywhere.

It is a good reminder that now, more than ever, with the climate change issue we are all dealing with, we should be conscious enough to throw our trashes or garbages, no matter how small, to a trash bin or garbage can. Not just that, but into the proper bin – if biodegradable, non biodegradable, or recyclable. Let’s help in our small ways. Arachi? ☺️

Smart cities

At this point in time, we are actually enjoying products that are “smart”. Smartphone, smart TV, smart watch, to name a few. And the next generation of “smart” we’ll all enjoy is a smart city with smart cars (the one that they are designing and testing in the series), smart bikes, smart shops (maybe). We are heading there. So, props to Start-up for showing its viewers a preview of how the future is unfolding. πŸ˜‰

I know most of us are hooked on the love story. So are you Team Good Boy or Team Do San? I actually belong to the latter. πŸ™Š

But you know, regardless, they are two fine men who are both good looking and good at what they do. So my takeaway from the series is to know what you do good and know what’s your definition of “winning“. If you want to win at investing money (or making more money) then become an investor. If you want to win as a problem solver on the technical side, then become a coder, engineer or a tech person. If you want to win as a problem solver on the management side, be a manager/CEO. Know what you want to win and how the team benefits from that win. We all have roles to play in a team, just play to win, for sure the team’s also bound to win.

Happy winning. If you are planning to have a startup project, I am wishing you success. And then don’t forget to pay it forward which to me makes winning becomes more sweet.

Fighting! πŸ₯°
